Located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, on a private 10 acre horse ranch, Horseman's Hangout includes several arenas, jumps, cross country jumps,  obstacles and more. No matter what discipline of riding or sport you desire, all foundational skills are always taught here. Here there is a common thread to achieve harmony where respect and love for the horse comes first and foremost. A positive change in human behavior brings positive changes in equine behavior.

Marcia Nelson and the Purpose and Mission of Horseman's Hangout:

Marcia has been honing skills from childhood in the field of horses. She has spent years studying with some of the best in the industry. She mentored and trained under Peggy Cummings (Connected Riding: www.connectedriding.com) for many years and received her practitioners certification from her numerous years ago. Marcia continues to extensively use and teach the principles and tools of the Connected Riding Trade. There are very few that understand and teach riding by Feel, Timing and Balance and thanks to Peggy's incredible program and extensive knowledge in this area this is the theme of how you will learn to ride at Horseman's Hangout. There are also few that understand the balance of the horse and how to achieve it through groundwork like Peggy teaches and this too is what you will learn at Horseman’s Hangout. Peggy has her roots in Centered Riding personally working with Sally Swift and is a TTouch Practitioner with Linda Tellington-Jones.

Horseman's Hangout is officially listed as a Training Facility by Chris Irwin. Chris has countless tips and insights about how to read a horse's body language and how to work with them to achieve the end result you seek be it from the ground or from the saddle. In solving problems he has been the missing link between understanding what is happening from one end of the spectrum to the other. One end of the spectrum being all issues have their roots based on mental issues and the other end of the spectrum being that all issues have their roots based on their bodies and how they carry themselves and their balance. Chris has artfully tied these two together and filled in the missing links of how to work the two issues together for a solid result. Chris Irwin has a video series that is a must for every equine owner available for sale on his website: www.chrisirwin.com

Marcia spent years attending countless clinics and camps in the Natural Horsemanship Discipline in the 90's and this has given her a good basis for her training skills in rehabbing horses that have lost their way with their humans and/or the world around them. They are the ones that have lost their trust in humanity and at times even other horses, and there are ways to help them to find their way back out to be productive members of their society and to have their owners happy and content in their relationships with their equines. These principles are good regardless of whether you ride English or Western and whether you compete or just ride for pleasure.

At Horseman’s Hangout you will also be introduced to creative ways of helping to motivate, teach and train both horses and children. At various times as needed techniques such as Clicker Training and Tag Teaching are also practiced in the program. Various children love to make and use their Taggers. An awesome tool used at Horseman’s Hangout has been the Monty Roberts Dually Halter. It has proven to be a great tool for both ground handling needs and also for riding. Visit Monty Roberts' website, www.montyroberts.com

The latest addition to Marcia’s repertoire of knowledge and skills has been Natural Hoof Care. She has studied extensively with Pacific Hoof Care Practitioners (PHCP) and has currently earned the level of Student Practitioner with their program which represents countless hours of training and classes in this field. She has rehabbed and maintained the hooves of 40 horses for numerous years in addition to her training and lesson practice. To learn more about PHCP, go to www.pacifichoofcare.org
